USWRF/WRCRA Hosts First Women In Rugby Conference

The Women’s Rugby Coaches & Referees Association (WRCRA), supported by the US Women's Rugby Foundation (USWRF) is hosting the 2018 Women in Rugby Conference on Friday-Sunday, Dec. 7-9 in Charlotte, N.C. WRCRA members can take advantage of a discounted registration fee beginning Monday, Sept. 10, and then sign-ups will open to the general public on Friday, Sept. 14.

“We are very excited to be hosting this gathering of folks committed to working for the future of girl's and women's rugby,” WRCRA Chair Kerri Heffernan said. “We’ve designed the sessions to be interactive and thought-provoking for all attendees. Whether you are a referee, player, fan or coach we are confident you’ll leave the conference feeling connected and inspired.”

Attendees will convene at Queens University of Charlotte for the three-day conference, and the programming will focus on “Capitalizing on Women’s Leadership and Opportunities in Rugby.” A panel of experts will feature luminaries both inside and adjacent to rugby -- from World Rugby General Manager Katie Sadleir, to USA Eagle and World Rugby Hall of Famer Phaidra Knight, Rugby Canada Vice Chair Kathy Henderson, Director of the Female Brain Project Donna Duffy, and many more.

Conference keynote speaker Nicole LaVoi, Ph.D., is the co-director of the Tucker Center for Research on Girls and Women in Sport and senior lecturer in the School of Kinesiology at the University of Minnesota. Her primary line of research addresses the under-representation of women in coaching, data that fueled her book, Women in Sports Coaching (2016). LaVoi also is a board member of the Alliance of Women Coaches and faculty member of the NCAA Women Coaches Academy.

WRCRA members can take advantage of a 40% discounted registration fee by logging into the members-only portal. For membership questions, please email wrcra.info@gmail.com. The registration link will be publicly circulated on Friday, Sept. 10.
